Motivational Story #1: Jack Ma The Man Who Never Gave Up
Alibaba, founded by Jack Ma, is a Chinese global corporation with operations in dozens of countries. Currently, his wealth exceeds $45 billion, making him a billionaire. He is currently the wealthiest person in China.
Despite this, he had a slow start to his journey of triumph. A child who failed his middle school admission exam twice. When he tried to enroll in college, he was denied entryinto the college due to his poor performance on the entrance examinations. In addition, Jack Ma had eleven rejection letters from Harvard shattering all his hopes to ever entering into a good college.
But this was not the end of bad times, in an interview, Ma revealed that he applied for 30 jobs but was turned down each time. Even during an interview with KFC, he was the only one of the many hopefuls who was rejected, yes the only one.
When Ma founded Alibaba, he didn’t think he’d have to deal with any more problems, but he was wrong. Until three years had passed, the business was unable to turn a profit. He tried to get finance from a number of Silicon Valley investors, but they all turned him down. The situation eventually reached to the point that the company was on the verge of going bankrupt but Jack Ma never gave up.
Later on, his determination resulted in the wonderful outcomes as Alibaba was able to grow and expand internationally with the support of finance from Yahoo! founder Jerry Yang, and within five years, Ma and Alibaba had driven eBay out of business in China.
Imagine yourself in Jack Ma’s situation; are your issues and rejections worse than his, given how many times he was turned down? Just tell me why it is that you want to give up.
Motivational Story #2: The Bamboo Tree
A man was having difficulty dealing with the challenges of life. In spite of all of the labor and effort that he put in, the only thing that he gained from it was failure. He came across a hermit in that area. Disappointed, the man confided in the hermit about his setback.
“Please tell me why I should I live this life full of challenges,” the man said. The Hermit was shocked to see a young man asking such questions.
The hermit added, “Take a look at these plants,” indicating a pair. Are you able to notice the bamboo and fern over there?
“Yes,” the man said with a nod.
“I did everything I could to make sure the fern and bamboo seeds thrived. Water, light, and fertilizer were all provided by me. Within a short time, the fern sprouted from the ground, the hermit went on.,” the hermit added.
However, after years of care and attention, the Bamboo seed still showed no visible signs of growth. During the first year, literally nothing occurred. No signs of development were present. But I did not gave up on the bamboo seed and I continued to water and care for it. Around the fifth year, a slender shoot began to emerge from the ground. And then the tree reached a height of one hundred feet in just six months.
The hermit questioned “So, did the bamboo tree expand exponentially after the fourth year?”
The man was confused by the question and so he said nothing.
The hermit answered by saying, “The young tree’s roots were spreading and strengthening, laying the groundwork for a robust canopy by the fifth year.”
To put it another way: The tree’s growth would not have been possible without the establishment of a solid base.
The hermit asked the man, “Did you know that all of the time you had been struggling, you were developing strong roots?”
That day, the man realized the significance of hardships and failures. He understood that hardships make us stronger so that we can win in life and achieve our dreams.
In the same way that the hermit did not give up on the bamboo tree, one must learn to never give up on their dreams, regardless of how distant they appear to be from being achieved.
Motivational Story #3: A Farmer And A Donkey
A donkey belonging to a farmer once fell into a well. The farmer spent hours trying to figure out what to do while the animal wailed pitifully. After considering it, he concluded it wasn’t worthwhile to collect the donkey because it was old and the well needed to be covered up anyhow.
He called on all of his friends and neighbors to come over and lend a hand. They each grabbed a shovel, and then they began to fill the well with soil using the shovels. Initially, the donkey was aware of what was going on and cried out in horror. After that, to everyone’s surprise, he became silent.
The farmer finally peeked down the well after he had shovelled a few more loads of dirt into it, and he was astounded by what he saw. He saw that the donkey was shrugging the dirt off and advancing one step above. The farmer’s neighbors kept piling dirt on top of the animal, but each time he would shake it off and move up.
After 30 minutes, everyone was astounded when the donkey climbed up over the mouth of the well and walked away.
The moral of the story is that no matter who you are, life will always throw dirt at you. The key is to not give up and never letting it weigh you down. If you keep going, you can climb out of any big well of failures and rejections in life.
