I have read many books, biographies and I believe you must have watched or read documentaries and biographies. If you have, then think before reading this article, just think for a second.
Think about all the things you found common while reading some influential people’s success stories, be it APJ Abdul Kalam, Elon Musk, Mahatma Gandhi, Bill Gates, etc.
Found any similarities? If yes, then it’s great, but if you haven’t, then I am here to tell you what successful people have in common; though their journeys differ, few things always match.
In this article, you will read about things every successful people have in common which makes them differ from you and me.
Let’s get started.
Things Every Successful Person Has in Common Which Make Them Different From Us
1. Patience is Their Best Friend Of Every Successful Person
Everything comes in time to him who knows how to wait. – Leo Tolstoy
This quote puts this whole idea of patience as the best friend in a nutshell. Do you know how long it took for most successful people to become rich? Let me tell you.
It took 23 years for Warren Buffet to become a billionaire, 13 years for Bernard Arnault(Lois Vitton Owner) to become a billionaire, 12 years for Bill Gates, and 5 years for Jeff Bezos. The list goes on and on, but one thing is common time.
It takes time for a seed to become a full-fledged tree and then bear sweet fruits, the same goes with humans too. People become impatient and take shortcuts which give them short-term happiness and long-term regrets.
Learn to be patient, make time your best friend and you’ll achieve more than what they have.
2. They Always Keep Attitude Of a Student
Every successful person you ever see carries within them the learner’s mindset or a students attitude. They never get tired of learning, and that’s the reason why they evolve and grow.
The most successful people never stop learning you know why? this is because they find learning as the most important investment. There is a famous quote by Warren Buffet, says:
There’s one investment that supersedes all others: Invest in yourself. Nobody can take away what you’ve got in yourself, and everybody has potential they haven’t used yet.
Nothing ever is a waste of time in life when you have a student in you. It helps you become a more well-rounded person.
Become better equipped by learning new skills, reading new books because that what successful people do, the habit of lifelong learning is no so common in ordinary people.
3. They Never Give Up
There is no successful person out there who didn’t have faced failure, and gave up. Be it Michael Jordon, Jack Ma, Oprah, etc.
Let me tell you the story of Walt Disney.
Disney was fired from his job in the newspaper and was told that he lacked imagination and good ideas. After facing this he decided to start his own animation company but that failed too, he literally ate dog food in his struggling days to survive.
For a moment just keep yourself in his shoes, he decided to start another animation company, would you have done the same? imagine you are surviving on dog food just because you go bankrupt because of your company, would you have started another? probably not.
But Walt Disney didn’t give up and became world-famous.
Success is hard to achieve and it requires a never giving up attitude. Read about the life of any successful person, you will notice that he didny gave up, successful people have never given up attitude in common. That’s why they achieve greater fame, name, and respect.
Here’s a famous quote by Walt Disney:
The difference between winning and losing is most often…not quitting. – Walt Disney
4. They Give More Than They Recieve
Most successful people tend to give more back to society than what they receive in different ways. Some do more charity, some build schools or hospitals, some take care of the educational needs of underprivileged ones.
But why do they do that?
They do it because they are thankful for what they have. They do it to make a difference in the lives of less fortunate ones, and that’s important because there is no greater happiness than seeing a smile on other’s faces.
Not many do this just because some people think they will lose their money, and they never become successful.
The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. – Mahatma Gandhi
Success is not always about money, it is about how much you do for others, have made a difference in society, has anybody life got better because of you. That is a success, my friend.
5. They Don’t Fear Failure
Every successful person I have encountered in my life, I have noticed that they never fear taking risks. They accept failure because they understand that nothing in life stays for long neither success nor failure.
People fear failure because they think they will lose everything they have gained so far, they fear what society will say about them, on the other hand, successful people don’ think about what others will say or what they will lose, they see the big picture.
Failure makes us learn, it helps us grow, it helps us understand the uncertainty of life. Let me give you an example.
What if I tell you, eat your favourite meal every time you feel hungry for the rest of your life?
Will you do it? will you be happy doing it?
The same goes with life, excessive of anything gets boring, if you wish for excessive happiness you will become insecure on the other hand some bad days will make you strong like wind, and storm tests firmness of the trees, the same way failure tests the strength of humans.
It’s fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure. – Bill Gates
So no matter how many times life knocks you down, stand up without fear.
6. They Love The Journey More Than The Results
Successful people avoid get rich quick schemes and try to build sustainable careers. They enjoy the process of building their dreams, they enjoy the failure, the hard work, the lessons etc.
They accept the uncertainty of life and do not think about the results of their actions, they just believe that one day their dreams will come true.
The actions you perform are more important than the results because if you lack focus while doing your work you cannot win.
Arthur Ashe, in one of his quotes, explains the journey of success beautifully, he says: “Success is a journey, not a destination. The doing is often more important than the outcome.”
7. They Wake Up Early
If you observe the lives of successful people you will find an interesting thing common, they all wake up early.
Jeff Bezos wakes up at 5am, Oprah Winfrey at 6am, Tim Cook at 3:45am, Jack Dorsey at 5am, Dwayne Johnson at 4am, etc.
But why do they wake up so early? You must be thinking they have achieved so much, why do they wake up so early?
The reason is they manage to take time for themselves, they work out, read books or do stuff they love. By waking up early they get extra time to do their chorus which makes them productive.
Conclusion
From being patient to waking up early these were the 7 things every successful person has in common. There is no need to copy all of these but it will be great if you get inspired, and practice one or two from these 7 points.
I hope you become successful, and achieve greater heights, just don’t forget to give more, love more and be more grateful in your life.
